47th MedRen Music Conference 2019 Basel

The 47th Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference 2019 will take place in Basel, from 3rd to 6th of July 2019. The conference is organised by the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis / FHNW (SCB) in conjunction with the Institute of Musicology of the University of Basel and the Basel section of the Swiss Society of Musicology. The organisers Dr. Agnese Pavanello (SCB), Prof. Dr. Martin Kirnbauer (SCB), Michèle Kinkelin (University of Basel), and JProf. Dr. Irene Holzer (University of Hamburg) are looking forward to welcoming you.

The Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference 2019 will take place from 3rd to 6th July 2019 in Basel, Switzerland. All musicologists and scholars from related fields of research are sincerly invited to participate. Please read the information about the Submission guidelines prior to your online submission.
Submission guidelines
We welcome papers and themed session on any relevant topic, from performing and recording early music in the twenty-first century, to madrigal studies, sources studies, analytical studies, medieval and renaissance music in Basel, to mention only a few. For a long time, historically informed performance, organology as well as forms of visualisation of music (notation, iconography) are the common fields of research of the two organising institutions. Within recent time and with the help of modern technologies or the connection with NCCR “eikones”, new cooperations could be made and focus on new emphases set. In view of these research focuses we, as a committee, welcome such topics in particular. We feel them as important topics for our research fields, but they are not intended as conference themes in any restrictive way and we would like to stress of course, that all themes and topics will be considered with equal interest.
Possible formats of presentation include, but are not limited to:
- individual papers of 20 minutes
- paired papers (60 minutes including QA)
- themed sessions (120 minutes for 4 papers and 90 minutes for 3 papers, including QA)
- round tables
- workshops/ lecture-recitals
- posters
- short 10-minute presentations
Conference languages: German, English, French, Italian, Spanish
All proposals should include:
- title
- indication of format
- proposer’s name
- proposer’s affiliation (if any)
- names and affiliations of any additional participants
- contact email
- AV requirements
- a short bio or bios of the participants (max. 15 lines)
Abstract:
- for individual contributions : c. 250 words
- for sessions with multiple participants: c. 200 words on the proposal as a whole, and c. 100 words on the contribution of each participant
Deadline: January 20, 2019.
Notification of acceptance: by February 28, 2019.
